Comparing ways to bring nature into a clinic or shop: digital windows, living walls, aquariums and browser scenes
When a clinic, office, spa or shop wants to soften a sterile or windowless room with a sense of nature, there are several very different approaches—ranging from custom architectural installations and living plants to software that runs on a TV you already own.
This article is written by the team behind keensense, a browser-based ambient scenery service. We include our own service in the comparison below, along with the situations where another approach is a better fit. Product details were checked on official pages as of November 6, 2026.
1. Architectural virtual windows and skylights: LiquidView, Sky Factory, LandSkip
- LiquidView (U.S.): Pairs commercial displays (such as Sony BRAVIA professional panels) with physical window trim and 24-hour 8K slow-TV recordings that sync to the local time of day from dawn to night. Installed in healthcare, memory care and luxury residential/office projects on a custom-quote basis.
- Sky Factory (U.S.): Builds recessed virtual skylights and windows for hospital imaging suites, patient rooms and waiting areas. Custom architectural quotes.
- LandSkip (Japan): Provides ultra-thin digital windows ("Medical Window", "Window Air") for hospital radiation therapy rooms, waiting areas and windowless offices.
Best for: New builds or major renovations with an architectural budget where the display should look like a recessed structural window or skylight.
2. Standalone window-shaped displays: Atmoph Window, Samsung The Frame
- Atmoph Window: A dedicated vertical window-shaped display (Atmoph Window Yo / 2) hung on the wall like a picture frame, with recorded views from around the world. Hardware is purchased per unit, plus optional subscription or per-view purchases.
- Samsung "The Frame": A matte, anti-glare television designed to sit flush against the wall with a magnetic bezel so it looks like framed art rather than a glossy consumer TV.
Best for: Boutique clinics and offices that want dedicated wall-mounted hardware without structural construction.
3. Living green walls and aquariums: Naava, aquarium leasing
- Naava (Finland): Soil-free living plant walls with automated irrigation, lighting and maintenance service, offered from roughly €150/month depending on model and contract.
- Leased aquariums: Bring real living movement into pediatric or dental waiting rooms, but require floor space, 24/7 heater and pump electricity, regular tank cleaning visits, and water/hygiene management.
4. Streaming boxes and browser scenes on existing screens: Atmosphere TV, Loop TV, keensense
- Atmosphere TV / Loop TV (U.S.): Dedicated streaming hardware for businesses. According to Atmosphere TV's help center, the service is free if streamed 40+ hours per month per venue ($20/month otherwise), and runs an ad-supported loop combining short clips, venue promotions and third-party advertisements.
- keensense (browser-based real-time scenes): Runs directly in the web browser of any existing smart TV, PC, Mac, iPad or Fire TV Stick—with no ads, no hardware box to ship, and no third-party commercials.
keensense, for comparison
- How it works: Instead of looping a video file, keensense draws fire, water, clouds, trees and stars in real time in the browser, so the motion never repeats identically (see recorded loops vs. real-time rendering).
- Price: $69/month or $690/year. One license covers one physical location with any number of screens inside that facility.
- When keensense is NOT the right choice: If you want real living plants, a recessed architectural window frame, or a room with no internet connection.
